UNDERSTANDING INERT WASTE

Managing waste correctly is an important part of any construction, landscaping or groundwork project — and understanding the difference between inert waste and general waste can save both time and money. We help customers transport inert waste to approved third-party recycling and disposal facilities across the region. While we are not currently operating our own sites, we continue to support safe and compliant waste movement as part of our haulage service.

Inert waste refers to materials that do not undergo significant physical, chemical or biological change. In simple terms, these are substances that don’t rot, react, burn or decompose. Because they are stable and non-polluting, inert materials can be recycled or reused in construction, road building and restoration works.

These materials are commonly produced during building work, farm improvements, track repairs, site clearance, drainage projects and general excavation. What We Cannot Accept

It’s equally important to understand what doesn’t qualify as inert waste. The following materials cannot be accepted at our exempt tipping sites:

• Contaminated soils
• Mixed waste
• Plasterboard
• Timber
• Plastics
• Green waste
• Asphalt / tar-bound material
• Household or commercial waste
• Hazardous substances

If you’re unsure about the contents of your load, our team can help assess the material and advise on the correct disposal process. We work closely with regional recycling and licensed waste centres across the Scottish Borders and Northumberland to direct customers to the appropriate facility when needed.
